pulsar recipe

( from instagram post 2023.11.27 )

Have you tried different valve settings when experimenting pulsar brews? Not only it affects flavors more apparently than I had expected, results can somehow mimic v60 brews using different filter papers.

With same coffee and brewing method, if I open the valve just enough to allow dripping, flavors become stronger and the body is heavier due to the longer brew time. By grinding slightly coarser, I can taste soft acidity, a lot of sweetness and lingering aftertaste. The experience is similar to v60 + cafec "light roast" filter paper. I love this setting a lot when brewing Ethiopian washed coffees (very light roast).

If the valve is fully open instead, flowrate is a lot higher and I have to adjust by grinding finer (especially for 15 g dose). The cup reminds me of v60 + sibarist “fast” filter - short brew time, very clean and bright acidity with short aftertaste. I find this setting very suitable for anaerobic process coffees where I want to tone down excessive fermenty notes.

My default setting though is somewhere in-between. It is because the flavors are more balanced and are nearest my favorite v60 + hario untabbed filter.

Let's try them if you haven't yet, and please share with me if you have other fun recipes :).
