Variety: sl28, sl34, ruiru 11, batian
Process: washed
Flavor impression: prune, cherry tomato sauce, maple syrup
Net weight: 150 grams
Resting: 30 days from roast
Best before: 90 days from roast
I have been looking for a tasty Kenyan lot with classic tomatoey characteristics. It is not the "salad tomato" which people usually associate with vegetal, sour notes from an underdeveloped roast, but more like a stewed cherry tomato sauce that is sweet and creamy.
This AA washed lot is produced by the Ndia-ini factory located at 1,600 to 1,900 masl in Nyeri. The factory is managed by the Rumukia Farmers Co-operative Society (FCS) with approx. 1,200 members who handpick ripe cherries and deliver to the Ndia-ini wet mill for sorting and processing.
My first impression on the cupping table was its high clarity and clean cup. The acidity of prune and stewed cherry tomato is prominent and is balanced by the maple syrup sweetness. A very tangy and classic offering by Ndia-ini this year.
